For example, a 10 mm² copper cable with PVC insulation rated at 61 A at 30°C may be derated to 43.3 A at 50°C .

In substations, IEEE 525-2007 provides guidelines for the design, installation, and protection of wire and cable systems to minimize failures and ensure safety . Compliance with these standards is voluntary but widely adopted in industrial and utility applications.
